Exhibit A for ITAR Reform

Space News reported today that Space Systems Loral of Palo Alto California was being sold to MDA Corporation of Richmond British Columbia, Canada. Here is the first paragraph:

PARIS — Canada’s MDA Corp. is buying the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial telecommunications satellites, Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) of California, for $875 million in cash in a transaction that does not include risks associated with a lawsuit between SS/L and one of its customers, the two companies announced June 26.

An Open Letter to Cal Thomas

There is serious confusion on the political right about what is happening with our nation's space program.  Mr. Cal Thomas, who I have the utmost respect for, authored a piece entitled China's JFK Moment which you can read here.  I would like to engage Mr. Thomas, not with attacks and hyperbole, but with conservative values and data which certain republicans in congress refuse to acknowledge.  It is a truth many conservative republicans do not wish to hear for it makes them think about what they are supporting, and if we are intellectually honest, they will realize what looks like a conservative policy on the outside is nothing more that socialist policies wrapped in conservatism.

Happy New Year

I wanted to take a minute and wish all of you a happy New Year. When I think of 2012 I think of what could have been, and what can be done. The issue of space policy will be a back burner issue for most congressmen and women. This is not to say they will not care, however, unless you are in a space state or district it simply will not get the time like deficit reduction. We will once again be VERY active in Washington DC and around the country.

China Shenzou VIII Successfully Docks

The Chinese space program achieved a momentous milestone.  Shenzou VIII successfully demonstrated autonomous docking with Tiangong-1.  This is a huge mile stone that only Russia has demonstrated in space.  NASA has never publicly acknowledged if we have demonstrated the capability.  However, publicly, autonomous rendezvous and docking has not been achieved by the United States.
