Today is September 11th. We will always remember where we were and what we were doing. Many of the details are still so fresh, so ingrained in my memory, it is shocking. I had just shown up for duty. It was my first day on the job as shiny new Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. I remember sitting down and having the Master Sargent explaining how certain protocols were to be conducted. Anyone who has actively served in the air force knows there are three things that are needed to begin any day: coffee, diet coke, and cigarettes.
The once heralded James Webb Space Telescope is cocooning missions like Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) and the Space Interferometery Mission (SIM). At the same time JWST is threatening to suck the blood (money) from such missions as Kepler. The latest article from the LA Times reports that the JWST is getting so big it is threatening all missions, just not astrophysics.
TEACON 2011 is on Friday and Saturday, September 30th and October 1st, and TEA Party in Space will be there! TeaCon 2011 will be partnering with Tea Party groups from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri to equip and motivate activists and voters for the upcoming election season. We want to make sure our space platform of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets... in space is heard and recognized.
Here is the link to TEACON 2011 for more information. Make sure you use the code PAL in the coupon code!
We hope all of our TEA Party in Space members who have a chance to come to this even will be there. The more we have, the more networking we can do.
Well the Pork BBQ put on by Senators Shelby, Hatch, Hutchison, Nelson, Vitter, Cochran, Wicker, Reid, Heller, Crapo, and Risch just got real. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Space Launch system will now cost $62 BILLION. That is billion with a B. This gives a brand new meaning to the old line, "When pigs fly".
Here is Part 2 of our Newspace2011 interview. This focuses more on the platform and science.
I cannot thank the MoonandBack team. Great job guys and thank you so much for giving the TEA Party in Space some time.
Let us know what you think, the website is coming along and we should have some more functionality soon.
While at NewSpace2011 I was blessed to be interviewed by the MoonandBack team. This is the first part of that interview. It is all about fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets... in space!
A special thank you goes out to the moon and back team. They really did do a marvelous job with the interview.
I am sorry I do not write here more. I wanted to take a few minutes and let you know what we were up to in August. We ended up visiting over 40 offices of the Tea Party Caucus in the US House. During those visits the space staffers were given briefs on such topics as:
• JWST – Why should it be canceled
• Space Launch System – Why it should be competitively bid
• Commercial Crew – Why it is so vital to American Human Space Flight
There were many follow up meetings as well as additional information requested. This is absolutely huge. Many staffs used the traditional approach of just asking the space congressman. Now they see another side that they would have not seen otherwise.
